Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery offers a charming experience with a creative selection of hide and seek objects to find throughout its beautifully illustrated maps. One of the best features is how certain levels make use of two stage states like daytime and nighttime because each state hides specific objects that only appear during that time. This mechanic adds a clever layer to the search and keeps the gameplay engaging. I also enjoyed that each era features its own self contained story which follows the successful format of the previous game and gives the scavenger hunt a nice sense of purpose.
However there are some notable drawbacks that make this entry feel a bit light. The runtime is very brief because you can easily reach one hundred percent completion in barely over two hours. The difficulty is also a bit inconsistent since some of the hidden objects are actually giant and require almost no effort to spot. It is also a real shame that the developers did away with the secret object mechanic from the second game because I really missed that extra challenge of unlocking a secret stage.
Overall Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery is a fun and relaxing addition to the series that introduces some clever environmental mechanics despite its very short length and simplified difficulty. It is a great choice for a quick gaming session even if it lacks some of the depth and bonus content found in its predecessor.
