S.p.l.i.t is a captivating experience that immediately hooks you with its fantastic aesthetic and a refreshing conversation system where you never have to worry about typing anything correctly. Despite the apparent lack of any active threats as far as I could tell, the game manages to remain surprisingly tense from start to finish. Utilizing terminal commands to achieve your goals is always an incredibly fun mechanic, and the gameplay here beautifully brought me back to my time playing Hacknet. A massive part of this atmosphere comes down to the outstanding music, which masterfully builds anticipation during certain moments to make it feel as though a jumpscare is right around the corner, successfully raising the stakes of your actions. The entire experience is only about 40 minutes long, but this concise runtime works in its favor, making it one of the easiest and most satisfying games to one hundred percent complete.
Overall S.p.l.i.t is a wonderfully atmospheric and nostalgic terminal based adventure that punches well above its weight through excellent sound design and a striking visual identity. While it is a brief journey, the combination of tense hacking mechanics and a stress free narrative interface makes it an absolute must play for achievement hunters and fans of command line thrillers alike.
