Monument Valley 3

“Monument Valley 3 is a breathtaking artistic masterpiece with inventive puzzles and a stunning soundtrack, though a frustrating final challenge slightly mars its triumphant conclusion.”

Monument Valley 3 proves that this franchise still knows how to outdo itself, consistently finding inventive ways to one-up the previous games in the series. The visual creativity remains absolutely unmatched, and Chapter 4 stands out as especially impressive with its gorgeous sketchbook aesthetic that breathes fresh life into the perspective-shifting gameplay. Accompanying these beautiful environments is a great soundtrack that perfectly sets the tone, with the music that plays during the credits serving as a particular highlight. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Garden of Life expansion adds a decent amount of content to the overall package, expanding the journey with four robust main chapters and twenty-one clever micro-puzzles.

The only major blemish on the experience arrives near the very end of the journey with the final memory puzzle. The layout and execution of this specific challenge feel poorly handled compared to the elegant design seen throughout the rest of the game, and the way it is set up makes it far too easy to completely screw yourself over. This sudden spike in mechanical frustration disrupts the game’s otherwise relaxing flow right at the climax.

Overall Monument Valley 3 is another triumphant and artistic masterpiece that successfully elevates the series with breathtaking new visual styles, an outstanding soundtrack, and a generous helping of expansion content. While the flawed design of the final memory puzzle makes for a frustrating conclusion, the sheer ingenuity of the sketchbook levels and the bite-sized charm of the micro-puzzles make it a mandatory experience for fans of the trilogy.
