Doom 3

“Doom 3 delivers a solid, dark sci-fi reboot with great monster redesigns and classic weapons, though predictable jump scares, overwhelming late-game enemy spam, and a weak final boss detract.”

Doom 3 is a pretty solid reboot of the classic Doom games, mixing in some horror vibes with its usual action. It definitely nails the dark and gritty look, but it doesn’t scare you as much as it tries to. Sometimes it gets intense, but it’s not really terrifying.

The monster redesigns are cool and make the enemies look fresh and way creepier than before. You get a decent amount of gameplay too, with about 10 hours in the main story and another 5 if you play expansions like Resurrection of Evil, which wraps things up nicely. The PDAs you find add some neat backstory, making the world feel more alive. And of course, all the classic Doom weapons are back, which fans will definitely appreciate.

There are some annoying parts though. The final boss fight feels kind of weak, especially since that enemy is usually just a mini-boss in other Doom games. The game also relies a bit too much on jump scares, like imps popping out from behind doors repeatedly, which gets old fast. The Bruiser enemy can be a real headache with nonstop attacks, and the second half of the game throws way too many enemies at you, which can get overwhelming and slow things down.

Overall, Doom 3 is a good reboot with a darker feel and some cool story elements, but the horror side doesn’t always hit the mark. If you’re a Doom fan, there’s plenty to enjoy, but if you want a truly scary game, you might want to look elsewhere.
