Crysis Remastered proves that even as an older title brought into the modern era, it remains an absolutely beautiful game that can still push visual boundaries. The core gameplay shines by offering many different ways to approach most combat scenarios, allowing for a great deal of tactical freedom where players can get a decent amount of practical use out of the nanosuit’s cloaking ability to sneak past or ambush targets. This freedom is amplified by the relatively large, open levels that feel expansive and feature optional minor secondary objectives to reward exploration. The narrative also keeps things engaging by introducing a nice mid game twist with the arrival of unknown alien life forms, completely shifting the dynamic of the conflict. Furthermore, the experience is elevated by great voice acting that successfully brings each of the distinct characters to life.
However, the game does suffer from some frustrating balance issues when it comes to specific enemy types. The KPA Nano Suit enemies pose an incredibly steep challenge, as they can completely shred through your armor and health in seconds. These encounters can feel somewhat unfair because these opposing soldiers often seem to be way tougher and more resilient than the player, which disrupts the power fantasy established by your own high tech armor.
Overall Crysis Remastered is a visually stunning and tactically rewarding first person shooter that successfully modernizes a classic experience through its open level design and versatile nanosuit mechanics. While the sudden spikes in enemy difficulty and aggressive opponent balancing can occasionally frustrate, the freedom of approach and engaging sci-fi narrative make it a thrilling campaign that still holds up incredibly well today.
