Blood West

“Blood West offers diverse ammo types, custom artifacts, and satisfying retro tactical freedom, though inconsistent enemy AI, confusing caves, and a weak curse system hold it back.”

Blood West is a pretty cool game that blends retro-style visuals with a variety of gameplay options, letting you play however you want. One of the standout features is the ammo system. You’ve got Standard rounds, Silver rounds that are great against Spirits, Gold rounds which are super powerful but rare, and Flammable rounds that set enemies on fire. This lets you switch up your strategy depending on the enemies you’re facing.

Artifacts add another layer by letting you customize your playstyle, whether you want to level up quickly, fight better, or focus on other things. The levels are open and give you the freedom to choose your path. You can go in guns blazing or sneak through tunnels, and there’s plenty to explore.

The sound design is fantastic, especially the gunfire, which feels heavy and realistic. The retro look really gives the game its own unique vibe. Enemies come in all kinds, and each chapter introduces new ones. Some enemies do show up again later, which helps keep the story connected.

That said, there are a few annoying things. The enemy alert system is a bit strange. Sometimes shots from far away make enemies freak out, but closer shots don’t, which can mess with your plans. The curse system isn’t very intimidating since you can easily get rid of curses by completing simple quests. The detection meter for Spirits is confusing because it’s unclear why it goes up or down. Also, the cave areas can be super confusing since they all look the same, making it easy to get lost.

Overall, Blood West is a fun and stylish game with lots of combat options and exploration. It nails the atmosphere and gives you plenty of choices, but some design quirks and tricky navigation might annoy you. Still, if you like retro vibes and tactical gameplay, it’s definitely worth checking out.
