ArcaniA

“ArcaniA offers satisfying combo combat, flexible gameplay styles, and rewarding exploration, but its lack of sprinting, basic skill tree, and stiff dialogue limit its depth.”

ArcaniA is actually a pretty decent RPG that doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. While it’s set in the Gothic universe, it’s not really a true Gothic game, so it’s a bit unfair to judge it as one. On its own, it offers a solid experience, even if it’s a bit simple compared to other RPGs.

One of the best parts is the combat. You can pull off cool 12-15 hit combos that feel really satisfying and powerful. There’s a good variety of weapons to try out, so you don’t get stuck doing the same thing all the time. The treasure hunt quests are fun too, with 30 secrets to find that actually reward you nicely. Plus, you can switch between magic, melee, and ranged combat whenever you want, which keeps things fresh and flexible. For a game that came out in 2010, the graphics still hold up pretty well, and the world feels big and detailed.

On the downside, moving around can feel slow and clunky since there’s no sprint button, and you have to find runes to speed up. The skill tree is very basic with only six skills, so character customization is limited. Magic is also pretty restricted with just three spells: Electric, Fire, and Frost. The writing can be a bit stiff and awkward at times, with dialogue that doesn’t always sound natural, which can take you out of the experience a little.

Overall, ArcaniA is a decent choice if you want a straightforward, flexible action RPG with some cool combat and exploration. It’s not perfect and could use more depth, but it’s definitely worth a try if you like that style of game.
