Amnesia: The Bunker

“Amnesia: The Bunker delivers a tense, immersive survival experience with combat options and brilliant audio cues, though awkward door controls and a brief runtime hold it back.”

Amnesia: The Bunker offers a tense and immersive experience that really stands out in the series. For the first time, you actually get to fight back, though only as a last-ditch option, which adds a new layer to the gameplay. The game does an excellent job of building suspense, constantly reminding you that there is no real safety in the tight, claustrophobic bunker.

The atmosphere is top-notch and keeps you on edge throughout. One cool feature is the heartbeat sound that signals when The Beast is nearby, giving you a subtle warning before things get scary. The environment changes a lot if the generator runs out of fuel while you are exploring, adding extra urgency and unpredictability. Collecting notes scattered around helps fill in the story, revealing the grim fate of Henri’s companions and making the experience more emotional.

The puzzles are varied and interesting, with different ways to overcome obstacles. However, some solutions can attract The Beast since it is very sensitive to noise. The flashlight making noise when you use it is a clever touch that increases the tension and forces you to think strategically.

On the downside, the game is pretty short, lasting about three and a half hours, which might leave some players wanting more. The controls can also be a bit awkward, especially when you have to hold a trigger while pushing or pulling doors with the sticks, which can disrupt the flow a little.

Overall, Amnesia: The Bunker is a gripping, atmospheric horror game with fresh mechanics that give the series a nice shake-up. Despite a few small issues, it is definitely worth playing if you enjoy psychological horror and survival games and are looking for something a little different.
